Okay so it has been a while since I have uploaded anything to the archive and also a while since I have been actively searching for new stuff to throw up. To put it quite simply I haven’t had enough time to do this properly. So basically what I am looking for is a few helpful people who want work on the archive with me. Whether its just responding to emails, taking stuff that has been sent to the blog and upping it to the blog, scanning old flyers.zines, ripping old tapes/records/cds and/or sourcing them, flyering at gigs, even someone who would be willing to give the archive a bit of a makeover. Straight up fast fun punk fuckin rock from these Wicklow boys. There is 6 tracks on the 7" and thanks a million to Alan for sending on the 8 unreleased tracks for everyones enjoyment, he also did an excellent job on EQ'n the tracks :)

Apologies to The Dirge lads for not getting this up sooner, but alas it is finally here. The Dirge are a young Dublin band playing a mix of hardcore and skacore. Four tracks on this EP, one being a Choking Victim cover, gives you an idea of the direction this band are heading towards, however to me the stand out track is Birth, Waste, Death which is a really well structured slowed down hardcore tune that reminds me of Moss Icon or Born Against. I dunno if that's what they were planning on but its comes of fucking great. I have only seen these guys once and am looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.

These four tracks of uptempo punk rock were recorded in September 1984 and released as a demo tape, the song 'Tribal War' is a stand out track and I guess quite topical for the time considering what I know about the punk scene in Ireland in the early 80's. Out of the other two bands featured Cruiser and The Knocking Shop, the latter whose track, 'Before Again' being the stronger of the two.

Focused mostly on the international HC scene of the time it had other bits and pieces including prose contributions from Smeggy Angus. #2 has a short story in Angus' Sven Hassel style.

Interesting release here from Paranoid Visions, perhaps they are the only Irish punk band to do a flexi disc?! The first tune is one of the best recordings I have heard of 'Home Sweet Hell', following this is 3 songs recorded live. I decided to leave these songs as one rip as they flow really well together and to rip them apart would destroy a lot of the urgency that comes from the recording, a high quality explosive recording that shows PC at their best, the songs are Newtownism/Asleep At The Wheel/Cycles of Christ. Lastly on the aforementioned flexi we have 4 Cough, a classic for any fans of Jayne County.

This E.P is soo good, to me 'Mouth' is the stand out tune, they have a kinda poppy-hardcore sound for want of a better description. Look its fucking punk okay?!

Anyway first up is the amazingly titled The Boy You Hit Is Dead who were described as noisecore and/or metallic hardcore. All I know is they had a serious fucking groove and I loved it.

My final Tearjerkers related upload, thanks to Paul Mc yet again for this selection of various radio and studio sessions, from the Grinning Soul Blog "In 1979 the Tearjerkers where enjoying good success with the single Murder Mystery doing well on both the radio and in the charts both in the UK and in Europe, thoughts turned towards recording follow up singles and an album. The TJ's booked time in Parkgate Studio in Sussex, England and recorded 3 new songs 'Comic Book Heroes', 'Fingers' and 'Can't You See' these track where not released at the time for various reason but did see a release in America on the Mercury label. Other recording sessions in London's Radio Luxembourg Studio's with Laurence Juber and in Belfast's Downtown Studio's yielded this collection of songs which where being considered for release in 1980 but plans were shelved due to the band splitting for the first time. The Tearjerkers Sessions contains studio versions the Tearjerkers 1979 set with the exception of some of the early stage favourites which can be heard on the Good Vibes Years album. This album is also available with a slightly different track listing and album art on itunes."

The tracks contained on both sessions were stage favourites such as Murder Mystery, Dressing Up and Comic Book Heroes. This is a collection of sessions for Downtown Radio, and I've been listening to this nonstop since I got my hands on it, worth it for 'Voice Of A Nation' alone, download it and you'll see what I mean :) The following blurb comes from Paul Mc, "Etc Etc where formed by Paul Maxwell lead singer of the Tearjerkers and Paul McIlwaine Guitar. While the Tearjerkers where a pure power pop outfit Etc's veered towards a more arty form of pop and featured the synthesizer of art student Stephen Mallaghan. Gregg Lindsey also from the later day line-up Tearjerkers played drums with Joe Sharpe on Bass guitar.

The band played live continually between 1980 and 1981 and recorded several sessions for Belfast's Downtown Radio station which where then released via the Blue Rhythm Label in Belfast and Portadown."

It should be noted that The Tearjerkers retrospectively released the 'Comic Book Heroes' LP in 2008, available via itunes. Anyway the following are the words of Paul from his blog in relation to this download, "This is a rare treat for anyone who saw the Tearjerkers live especially in the first couple of years. This collection features songs recorded for Belfast's Good Vibes Label. We recorded 4 songs in Keystone Studio's in Dublin's Harcourt Street. two of these songs ended up as our first single for Good Vibes i.e. Love Affair and Bus Stop. This single was remarkable because of its stand-out cartoon gate-fold sleeve. The song Bus Stop was written by Paul & Howard and was played as part of the Detonators set back in 1977. The other songs from this session that where considered for a second release and are 'Don't Blame Me' and 'Chit Chat'. The rest of this collection are studio recordings made in Belfast around this time. These tracks where featured on local radio station both in Northern and Southern Ireland and even BBC's John Peel picked up on several of these raw recordings prior to the release of the Murder Mystery single on Phonogram."

Dagda/Scatha - Split 7"

Thought I already had this uploaded but I guess not. Another classic 'And So I Rise' from the Dagda on this split with Scatha. One song a piece, the Dagda one really is special, their usual brand of epic crust with some amazing lead guitar towards the end. Scatha is more mid paced crust but still cracking.

Another 7" that has been sorely missed thus far by the blog. This 7" still sounds as fresh and unique to me as it did when I first heard it almost ten years ago! Ska Punk but with a hell of a lot more going on musically than your usual garb. Also I have managed to get a DAT tape of other early Puget recordings, if anyone has anyway of getting DAT to cd/mp3 please get in touch. In regards this rip, I thought the slight hiss might be due to how many times I played this record, unfortunately it was a problem with the pressing in general so I am reliably informed, makes it sound even better in my eyes.
