BLUE BABIES - FROM A WHISPER TO A SCREAM Tape

Blue Babies - From A Whisper To A Scream
Dublin, 1991, FOAD, Cassette

Ah the Blue Babies! This was the band that made me wanna start doing this blog/archive in the first place, after kindly getting their songs sent on to me at the end of last year they have been on constant repeat. The fact that this band didn’t record more than these six songs here is one of the biggest fucking travesties of irish punk rock. This was recorded in 91’ when I was still too busy listening to Alice In Chains and Soundgarden and growing my hair long to even have this type of stuff on my radar, my loss. This is fast, angry, punk rock, with wit and sarcasm, they sound like a whirlwind of fucking insanity. The more and more stories I hear of this band the more the legend grows and grows. If anyone has any of their gigs recorded live please let me know. This recording is fucking whopper too, clear and with plenty of heft. Thanks to Al for sending this on.

DISMAL ABYSMALS - 'ILLEGITIMATE TARGETS' Tape

Dismal Abysmals - 'Illegitimate Targets '
Dublin, 1992, Fuckurma, Tape

This is chaos punk, well kind of. Not in the fucking boring, monotonous, fucking generic stuff that the likes of punk core records or whoever puts out, this is pure proper chaos punk, it don’t even sound like any of those bands. This is chaos punk in the manic, sarcastic, fucking pissed off, insane, fucking brain-addled. stressed out, bemused chaos that shines through on bands like the feederz or dead kennedys in some moments. Each song is totally different, fuck they even have bits that sound like GISM vocals. 19 songs with brilliant titles such as, ‘You’re A Wanker‘, ‘Mustshag Sally‘, ‘Me-shelle Suit’ and ‘Art School Wank’, excellent stuff indeed. Thanks to the person who sent this in.

CIRCLE AGAIN - XXX Tape

Circle Again - XXX Tape
Belfast, 1999, Surehand, Cassette

I only saw Circle Again a handle of times, one of my fondest memories of them is seeing them play Knockrockstock in Batty O Briens in Roscommon in 00’. Straight from the off they really seemed to be on a different page altogether, and what a fucking blinder of a page it was too. I think Tadhg was one of the best vocalists of an Irish punk band, he had amazing presence and fuckin rocked it. Brilliant fast as fuck hardcore.

STRESS - 1ST DEMO

Stress - 1st Demo
Dublin, 1999, DIY, Cassette

COITUS - IN TWO MINUTES YOU'LL BE SMOKIN' IN HELL TAPE

Coitus - In Two Minutes You'll Be Smokin' In Hell Tape
Dublin, 1991, FOAD, Tape

First two demos by Coitus here released by FOAD on one tape. Amazing raw discharge and amebix style punk. Now back playing gigs together and soon to have a collection of all their post 91' songs released on a double cd by Underground Movement.Taken from the Underground Movement website "Initially formed in 1989 amidst the sqautter/Punk scene of North London, the band saw several members pass through the ranks including Pete “Lippy” Lyons, formally of Antisect, Martin Tyan, later to form Screamer and Pato Duffy, now sadly passed away. The band settled on the stable line up of Skinny-Bass/vox, Alien Drums/vox, Mik Guitar/vox and embarked on a chaotic journey, which saw the band tour all over the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe, releasing several recordings along the way. Coitus finally split in 1996 but have been sporadicallyreforming since 2000 and will play a handfull of live dates to support this release."

PARANOID VISIONS - FROM THE WOMB TO THE BUCKET DEMO

Paranoid Visions - From The Womb To The Bucket Demo
Dublin, 1984, Bluurg Records, Tape

Absolutely delighted to get my hands on this, brilliant early PV demo, they had such an excellent PIL/Killing Joke influenced sound around this time. Download this now!

PERIDOTS - OPEN SEASON/CALM 7" + EXTRAS!

Peridots - Open Season / Calm 7" + 2 Bonus Tracks
Dublin, 1981, Optional Goods, 7"

This is one absolute cracker sent on to me by Boz, amazing dark, atmospheric post-punk, been listening to this constantly all week and I honestly think this band could've been fucking huge. More from Boz here, "An very interesting first generation post-punk band, the Roots of the peridots lie in Steve Rapid's decision to leave the Radiators and remain in Dublin in 1977. Together with Pete Hamilton they formed a band called the Modernaires, experimenting with the possibilities of newly available and affordable Wasp synths. With the addition of Stan Erraught ( later of Stars Of Heaven and The Great Western Squares ), and the departure of Rapid, the stable duo renamed themselves The peridots and released their only single Calm/Open Season in 1981. Previous to this they had been included on the Boddis 7" EP (1980) which celebrated a run of gigs at the Magnet on Pearse Street and also featured Big Self, Chant Chant Chant and The Departure. Pat Larkin of the Blades briefly played drums before they split i n 1982.There are 4 tracks included here - The two off the 7", the unissued track "So Many Angels" and the Boddis EP track "Precious Blood". "

SLEDGEHAMMER - MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL DEMO

Sledgehammer - Money Is The Root Of All Evil Demo
Belfast, 1980's, Warzone Records, Cassette

Pretty interesting one here, posted by Lazy Rod on Land Speed Sonic blog. Can't really find out much about this band any more information on this band would be appreciated, thanks to Sean for the scanned cover. Brilliant female fronted punk with dashes of reggae.

THE GROWN-UPS - CHILLI-CHEESE DOG TAPE

The Grown-Ups - Chilli-Cheese Dog Tape
Dublin, 1991, DIY, Casette

More excellent pop punk here sent on by Boz "Here's the second and final GrownUps tape... 4 tracks were meant for circulation but the full session of 8 tracks is here for posterity!! This was released just before they broke up some time in Summer 1991"

PINK TURDS IN SPACE - THE COMPLETE PINK TURDS IN SPACE CD

Pink Turds In Space - The Complete CD
Belfast, 1980's, Rejected Records, CD

Possibly one of the best Irish bands of all time, more than 40 songs of straight up punk as fuck gems. Good interview with Crispo about the Turds here, had to split this download into two parts as its pretty massive, apologies.

NOT OUR WORLD - LIVE AT THE EARL GRATTAN , FEB 1989

Not Our World - Live at the Earl Grattan, Feb 1989
Dublin, 1989,Unreleased

Another excellent quality live recording from this legendary punk band from Dublin. It's an incredible pity this band never recorded in a studio.

BLOOD RED DOLLS - BANNED CD

Blood Red Dolls - Banned Album

Full lenghter here of more excellent rock n roll. Apparently only about 100 copies of this cd were ever pressed up, so here it is for your enjoyment passed on kindly by Tommy.

PARANOID VISIONS - DEMOS AND RARITIES

PARANOID VISIONS - DEMOS AND RARITIES
Dublin, 1982-2009!, Various

Thanks a million to PA for sending me on these gems. First up is a demo of 'Creeping' off the recent 'Beware of The God' LP which is a cracking anthem. Following this is a 1996 version of the PV classic 'I Will Wallow' with Dolores O Riordan of the Cranberries being the focus of Deko's spite this time around. Next up is 7 songs from a 1982 demo, this is pretty unsual stuff from the PV I know, coming on like a more fucked up PIL with a Killing Joke influence this stuff is truly menancing. To finish up are two otutakes from The Robot Is Running Amok EP Sessions. Anyway download this gold and check out what PV are at here. That is where I nicked the image from which is circa 1990.

ONIONBREATH - CYBERMAN VIBRATIONS ALBUM

Onionbreath - Cyberman Vibrations Album
Dublin, 1993, DIY, Casette

More from Onionbreath bio..."Onionbreath was never a fast band, nor one that was ever going to moderate itself within the trappings of an orthodox punk sound. The album length CYBERMAN VIBRATIONS ('93) consisted of a handful of experimental bedroom recordings as well as songs that were an integral part of the live set. At this point the techincal aspects had improved slightly... Brian from Ogre had acquired a 12 track desk with 9 tracks actually working on it, formerly belonging to the Radiators! Running 2 channels into this from the 4 track for stereo meant we had 9 to work with before we needed to start bouncing tracks... this way we were able to record the basics live in our drummer's bedroom and add tracks (hide our mistakes?) later..... The various bedroom recordings were added in and sequenced on a "master" before we hit the twin tape decks again, and the "unlegendary" sunburst cyberman covers (our answer to all the rave graphics at the time) were moonlighted during a FAS course. This cassette got some very positive reviews on it's release and sold well, although in hindsight, this was Dublin in '93 and independent music was still in nappies, so there was definitely more empathy with zero budget operations.
Towards the end of 1993 there were plans laid for a 7" single to be released in the summer of 1994 (we even got as far as making the plates for the sleeve), but as we all meandered off in our own direction, the last official business of Onionbreath was a gig in Fusion on O'Connell Street with Flexihead (this may very well have been their last gig too???).
Time has blurred much of that era but some fond memories include rehearsing in the drummer's shed and standing in the snow outside playing bass because there was so little room. Bullshitting a member of Ogre that State Of Shock by the Ex was our new demo was a moment definitely worth a mention, and of course the proudest moment live would have to be supporting the Spermbirds when they rolled through Dublin all those years ago. Then there were the many multi-bills upstairs in the Fox & Pheasant where 6-7 bands would use the same gear, sometimes right down to straps and plectrums, which would inevitably end with that long forgotten rite of passage - running for the last bus with a drum kit!!!
While we were merely one of many who learned their chops around this time and went onwards and upwards with other ventures, the determination to contribute to underground culture in the city (without maybe ever fully integrating into it) and the resolution to beat general tedium with something constructive was the driving force behind the brief lifetime of Onionbreath."
Thanks Boz

ONIONBREATH - STINK EP

Onionbreath - Stink EP
Dublin, 1991, DIY, Casette

First EP by Onionbreath, hpnotic, dark, rockin, punk (that's the best descritpion I can give, it's legend though. Thought I'd copy the first half (second half should appear above) of an excellent bio Boz has put up here "Somewhere north of the green strip of market gardening (when there was such a thing), a bunch of malcontents came together with borrowed equipment and indulged in that common and altogether unremarkable suburban habit - they formed a shoddy punk band.
Inspired by local heroes (as we saw them) Not Our World and a bunch of others home and abroad, some manner of vision was concocted and within 6 weeks we had blagged our way onto a bill in the ubiquitous White Horse Inn (subsequently the Attic, then a shitty living room with a bar in the corner) through our mentors Ogre ... "mentor" in the sense of borrowing everything from PAs to plectrums every time we wanted to do anything!!.
The next year or so saw us buffer the bell-end of local band bills in city centre pubs, playing with Ogre, Sloth, Shred, The GrownUps, Ciunas, The Afflicted... and slightly later... SMH, Mush Flubbah, Arnheim, Jam Jar Jail, Concrete Sox, The Flying Kidney, Crossbreed, Dr Shitface, Stigmatamartyr, Life But How To live It, Pincher Martin, the Mexican Pets, DIRT, Slunk, Flexihead, the Spermbirds!!!... and many more that time has been harsh to the memory of....
Onionbreath rehearsed in a garage, a tiny shed and a bedroom - and subsequently recorded under similar zero budget circumstances - the STINK EP ('91) was laid to tape on a 4 track running through a DCC with programmed drums. About 100 of these were dubbed on a twin tape deck with hand made labels glued to the tape shells. In the tradition of many bands in this genre, the complete lack of traditional musical prowess dictates that you basically start with nothing and while most initial output is disposable, sometimes you accidentally stumble upon that which gives a band it's sound/ personality"...continued above

VARIOUS - THE WARZONE BENEFIT TAPE VOL. 1 & 2

Various - The Warzone Benefit Tape Vol 1 & 2
Various, 1990, Warzone, Tape

Two excellent benefit compilations for the infamous Warzone Centre in Belfast, featuring both Irish bands and bands from all over the world these are two great little tapes. Thanks to Graeme for this find. Again these have to be downloaded as two seperate fiels due to the size. The old Warzone Website is still here.

THE REAL WILD WEST - THE SIXTIES EP

The Real Wild West - The Sixties EP
Dublin, 1989, Solid Records, Vinyl 12" EP

This was sent on to me by Boz, three songs of excellent post-punk/indie with a great dark sound. 3 songs here produced by the legendary Phil Chevron (Radiators from Space) and Shane McGowan!

THE GOLDEN HORDE- IN REALITY LP

The Golden Horde - In Reality LP
Dublin, 1986, Media Burn Records, Vinyl LP

More again from The Golden Horde, I've been pretty much hoovering up anything I can find of this band in the past few weeks, also alot of conversations I have had about this blog with people seem to show that there is a lot of love out there for these guys. This band smack of rock n roll abandon, from the guitar licks to the excellent vocals of Carmody it's all gold.

GLOBAL PILLAGE - FIRST, LAST & ONLY ALBUM

Global Pillage- First, Last & Only Album
Dublin/Wicklow, 1999/2000, Unreleased?

Not sure if this ever actually came out on cd, think the band may have split before they had a chance to release it (I could be wrong, correct me!). They still have an old website here, this is the last bit of info entered on the site, "Global Pillage are a five piece Punk band from around the Dublin/Wicklow area. They play a mix of old style 80s underground punk. Mostly said to sound like a mix of Dead kennedys/Conflict/ [SUB][HUM][ANZ] Formed in January 1999 they split up before recording when they're first drummer left. Then in June 2000 we started to get back togeather with a new drummer to work towards a recording of our set of songs. We don't think we'll be recording the rest of the tracks so we are calling our soon to be released C.D. "First last & only".

WARZONEFEST 2002, BELFAST - VARIOUS VIDEOS

Warzonefest 2002 - Various
Belfast, 2002, Various Vidoes

Another one I originally had put up on youtube. These videos bring brack some great memories for myself, the Waronze in the few times I was lucky enough to visit it was inspiring and welcoming, great times. I think these videos were originally filmed by Marty so hope he doesnt mind me throwing them up in avi format here. There are videos from the following Irish Bands - Knifed, Bastard Youth, Stress, Easpa Measa, Runnin' Riot, Coldwar, The Dagda, Stand Up Guy, Los Cabras and even the Air Guitar Competition. Enjoy but unfortunately due to the file size I had to split these videos into two seperate downloads.

Part 1
Part 2

DEBT - LIVE 1999 VIDEO

Debt - Live 1999 Video
Dublin, 1999, 10minute video

I put this video up on youtube quite some time ago, thought I'd put up the proper avi of it here. Think this may have been recorded in Belfast at the Warzone around 99. More classic downtuned sludgey hatefilled music from Debt.

THE ATRIX - PROCESSION ALBUM

The Atrix - Procession Album
Dublin, 1981, Scoff Records, Tape

Arguably the unrecognised gem of the first wave of irish punk/new wave bands. The Atrix started in 1978 and their catchy, atmospheric punk gems quickly garnered them a large following. 'Treasure On The Wasteland' featured on this tape is possibly one of the best songs of the early Irish punk scene, a song recently paid homage to by Paranoid Visions. For more about The Atrix check out irishrock.org

OGRE - SANATAS (Axe Of Contrition) Album

Ogre - Sanatas (Axe Of Contrition) Album
Dublin, 1991, Flossy Flap Tapes

When I got this sent on by Boz I didn't know what to expect, but he was correct in his estimation that this would be right up my alley. An interesting band with an enigma all of their own, check out their website if you don't believe me, Ogre destroy all with some incredibly dark sounding tunes. From harsh grinding parts, to death metal, to sludgy rocking doom in moments, the songs charge along interspersed with brilliantly used samples and some of the nastiest vocals you'll hear from an Irish band ever! With song titles as good as, " Scourged At The Foot Of The Imperial Gates Of Satan" and " Eat Your Guts" you can't really go wrong here. Excellent 9 page pdf of the booklet that came with the tape included too.

STRIKNIEN D.C. - WORLD CUP 94' TAPE

Striknien D.C. - World Cup '94 Tape
Dublin, 1994, Tape

An Unusual one here! Originally meant for release on a 7" but only saw the light of day on tape, these two great tracks - 'You'll Never Beat The Irish' and 'And Ode To Eamon Dunphy' - from the Dublin punk stalwarts.

THE GOLDEN HORDE - LIVE AT EUROROCK FESTIVAL, HOLLAND 1989

The Golden Horde - Live At Eurorock Festival, Holland 1989
Dublin, 1989, Unreleased, Taped From the Radio!

Absolutely fucking fantastic live show by The Golden Horde I race graciously passed on. recorded off the radio in 1989 and ripped to mp3. I only have heard The Golden Horde since I started doing this blog and to be honest they are fast becoming one of my regular plays. The quality on this is excellent so if you enjoy anthemic, menancing, victorious, rock n fuckin roll you should download, the songs Stick With Me and Fiona are worth it on their own. Thanks to D. for the rip.
